BA (Hons) Photography
Courtney Furby is a socially-engaged photographer whose work is driven by collaboration; her documentary-style images concerned with complex themes including mental wellbeing, community and belonging. Furby engages with small groups of individuals, embedding herself within the group to authentically document as an insider. Her projects are often considered a co-authorship between the participants and herself, the individual having control over their representation, the work becoming a platform for self-expression.
Building and developing this working process, Furby is extending her practice to involve other groups, gathering responses regarding the community photographed, engaging a wide range of individuals and showcasing the connection between different communities.
