BA (Hons) Fine Art
London based artist, Mei-Ling Butland-Cheung (b.1997) creates large-scale installations that focus on her exploration between the fragility, memories and trauma through links to the urban environment. Currently based in Coventry, she is in her final year of a Fine Art with International Enhancement degree. After spending a year in Madrid studying Architecture, Butland-Cheung returned to the UK with the independence to redefine and explore deeper into her practice. Owing to her studies in Architecture, she began exploring urban environments and linking her new interest to her previous practice of ceramics which enabled her to cast objects such as potholes and bollards in plaster. The artist utilizes the properties of materials to challenge the audience to question the significance of urban infrastructure that is the constant background for human interactions, both negative and positive.
