"If this is street was mine" is a Brazilian lullaby known by almost all Brazilian children by heart. My father sang this lullaby to my brother and me when we were little, and it always brought us comfort. As I developed this project, it came to mind repeatedly and made me think that it is more than just a lullaby. It is a love letter where the person wishes they could do something to ensure their beloved would only experience special, beautiful, and unique places. Those characteristics describe everything a city should bring to its people. A city should be a place of comfort, good memories, and it should be memorable. From then on, everything made sense. "If Coventry was mine" is a project that aims to transform Coventry into the city we always wished for our loved ones. It connects with our heritage and with our inner child, intending to rescue the city's excitement. It proposes to create a city where we want to meet our friends and see our children grow up, the city we want to write our story on.
In this project, architecture is used as a support for Coventry's urban life.
More importantly, the architecture will be a tool to create sensible spaces for the people who live and need these rooms, making the necessary interventions to give them a real meaning in their context.
The project suggests intervening in existing rooms to provide a new rhythm to the city and the urban daily life, using different intimacy levels to bring urban excitement to Coventry.
