This design thesis is about promoting identity, connection and belonging in Coventry city centre through the creation of a socially condensed guild quarter that is supported and stimulated by various fields of production alongside living within the urban context.
This vision for the city is to present a stronger narrative to aid in the re-coding and regeneration of Coventry’s civic area to the proposals of City Centre South. The City Centre South project is a prime example of a generic attempt to the revitalisation of cities that eventually contribute to the further demise and detriment of cities as they are designed at the expense of the true qualities and attributes that define a city including but not limited to identity, heritage, the local people, connection and so on.

This design thesis as an alternative response to city centre south’s proposal will explore the city in depth through the lens and concept of ‘production’ within the city to identify attributes and characteristics about ‘production’ within the city that can be reimagined today for a better re-coding of the city that is a reflection of identity and heritage within Coventry.
