Yik Ling Chan

BA (Hons) Graphic Design

I am a graphic design student who loves oil painting, and hence illustration is my strength in this field. I also enjoy packaging design since it is always something that attracts me to buy a product. I am an outgoing person who is also a team player. I also love learning new things and I am capable of working under pressure.

Completing the Graphic Design course at Coventry University helped me build confidence in design, since I had no experience in this area beforehand. I learned much about the subject, including software including the Adobe suite. Procreate on iPad also helped me a lot in developing illustration work.

However, studying at university is not enough; my goal is to take an internship after graduation to broaden my horizons and gain real-life experience of graphic design with illustration, packaging, environmental design, publication design and advertising.

"Occasionally, in times of worry, I've longed to be stylish, but on second thought I say no—just let me be myself—and express rough, yet true things with rough workmanship."

Three posters for 'Love China Town' rebrand. I made Korean, Japanese and Chinese food illustrations for each poster to attract people to visit China Town (London)
A webpage mockup for the 'Love China Town' campaign
An illustrated piece for my friend's children's book project. I put Godiva in it since she is Coventry's signature, with an old city street in 'blues'.
An illustrated book cover for the Penguin Student Design Award. Apart from the illustrations that I am most familiar with, I played with fonts, layout, and colour combinations
An illustration for a group project in my second year in which I represented my home, Hong Kong, illustrating its famous neon light signs
