Hi I'm Sam, I studied MDes Product Design at Coventry University. My project is about preventing the Type 2 epidemic in urban areas. The product I designed is called Canli, meaning to live or to live freely. Canli is a discrete, non invasive blood glucose monitor, which is predominately a watch, but can also be worn as a necklace and around the body.

Canli strives to raise awareness for increasingly common but unknown factors that cause Type 2 Diabetes, as some people's lifestyles unintentionally put them at a higher risk of developing it.

Urban growth and diabetes are raising simultaneously and this is no coincidence. Sedentary work and leisure as well as heightened exposure to air pollution are systematic to urban areas, both of which have recently been discovered to be massively contributing to raising blood glucose levels.

Canli is a lifestyle management device for people living in urban areas. The wearer will be aware of how their work, travel and leisure affects their blood glucose levels as well as being notified and guided by Canli, to make subtle, day-to-day lifestyle changes in order to keep it regulated.
