BA (Hons) Automotive and Transport – Personal Mobility

SYMBIOSIS is a luxury personal eVTOL aimed towards individuals with the desire for a more emotional, organic mobility experience in the dystopian, hyper-digitised world of 2040–the post-digital era.

The aim of this project was to challenge the boundaries of user-machine interaction in future mobilities while also experimenting with an alternative design ideology called the "benefit of inconvenience".

The inspiration for this thesis came from the Azuma House in Sumiyoshi, designed by Japanese architect Tadao Ando. Despite having a very simple layout, the Azuma House manages to integrate nature within a spatially restricted living space, creating an inconvenient but simultaneously beneficial user experience. By implementing this element of inconvenience, Ando aimed to question the inertia invading modern human dwellings.
