BA (Hons) Fine Art
BISECT means to divide into two exactly equal parts, representing how my two bodies are equal halves of one whole. Through my practice I explore a non-normative identity as the physical manifestation of 1+1=1. Wearing matching outfits, living under one name and referring to my two bodies singularly is crucial to my practice; I am a self-proclaimed piece of Living Art. Therefore, my physical practice is an extension of my life as BISECT.
My work is multi-disciplinary, although my main mediums are textiles, photography, and performance. I use these both in combination and separately to realise ideas. Predominately, my photography documents myself through selfies; either as typical selfies or long exposure self-portraits. I use textile techniques such as appliqué, print making and embroidery to develop some of my imagery. Expanding on my textile skills, I also create matching articles of clothing or conjoining garments that my two bodies can physically function as one in. The act of conjoining my bodies intrigues me, because it is the closest way that I can experience being a single functioning person.
