Foundation Diploma Art, Design & Media
Hyper reality is the point in which reality and virtuality cross. It's a global culture where everyone can be distinguished by data, and privacy is merely a misconception. I use avant-garde techniques combined with editing to portray my interpretation of hyper reality in fashion, an industry reliant upon new technologies, particularly in such times of isolation. Throughout my investigation I've used unorthodox materials, particularly cables, to drape from the body to represent digital spaces through fashion, I contrast this with traditional sewing techniques to manipulate the materials further.
People are becoming less materialistic; we no longer require substance to be satisfied, instead we absorb the lives of others on social media to become aesthetically stimulated. I want to interpret this need for stimulation through glitched photography and unconventional fashion. As people spend more time scrolling through screens, we become immune to what we see. My work exists physically but will only ever be consumed virtually to further emphasise the importance of aesthetic and social media and how information will be consumed in the future. I want people to question if my work ever existed to begin with.
