Packages offer an unknown of what lies within, even if we hold an expectation. This parallels our experience of living with Covid-19 as uncertainty pervades our lives. During the global pandemic of Covid-19 I sat with the unknown alongside everyone else in the world. Due to disconnection from the external space I began to continuously order packages as a wish to connect with the world, and a desperate attempt to break free from isolation. I realised that packaging occupied the space between the inner and outer worlds, a liminal space of creativity and opportunity. I became intrigued with how packaging offered a protective layer that contained the object of my desire. Rather than discard the packaging, it became the focus of my work. I deconstructed and reconstructed the material to make garments, through processes of burning, print, and sublimation. The imagery and typography from my packaging was taken through a process of redevelopment and applied to the exterior packaging to repurpose it and create new forms through a series of experimental works that lead to final artworks reflecting the theme of S.O.S.
